Alumni Band Day 2019 is Almost Here!

We’re days away from Alumni Band Day 2019 and the excitement is palpable! Since we’re now in the final stretch, here are some important details to be aware of for ABD.

Please read the entire post as there is a lot of information to convey.


Gameday Attire

Thanks to KLLL for sponsoring our official Alumni Band Day t-shirt this year. If you signed up before the t-shirt deadline, you will receive a shirt free of charge with your registration. We will also have more shirts available for sale at our onsite store.

Since this is a black t-shirt, the Board of Directors are asking that all performing members wear BLACK for the game and all guests wear Tech colors. As always, please dress comfortably for the weather. This is a change from our uniform of years’ past.

Friday, September 6
6:00 PM — Friday Night Get-Together @ Cooks Garage
Come join us at Cooks Garage (https://goo.gl/maps/snqwDLkrjqAFCL158) beginning around 6pm for an informal get-together. A ton of delicious food and drinks are available for purchase, plus a great opportunity to catch up with old friends!

Saturday, September 7

11:00-1:30 PM – Interviews/Recordings of GB Couples — Room TBD
12:00 PM – Registration packet pickup & GBA Store opens — Red Raider Lounge in the SUB
1:45 PM – General Meeting of Members — Red Raider Ballroom in the SUB
2:30 PM – Indoor Rehearsal — Red Raider Ballroom in the SUB
3:00 PM – Outdoor Rehearsal — Band Lot
4:00 PM – Supper Provided — Band Lot
5:00 PM – Goin’ Band Fan Performance — Band Lot
5:30 PM – Buses depart for Alumni not marching over — 18th & Akron Ave
6:10 PM – Alumni Band Step-off — Band Lot

Silent Auction

We’re going to try something new with our silent auction this year by offering it online! We wanted to provide a way for those who could not make it to Lubbock this weekend to have a shot at winning some of these exciting items.

Our goal is to open the Silent Auction early next week and run it until step-off on game day. The details of how to participate will be sent out once the auction opens.

Other Fun Notes

As a reminder, our Honor Group this year is “Marriages Made in the Goin’ Band”. This is an exciting collection of alumni who found that special someone in band.

If this applies to you, we want to hear your story! We’ll be interviewing couples on camera during Alumni Band Day for a special story. Please consider participating in this recording opportunity!

Also, we’re planning on having a Photo Booth at Alumni Band Day for those special couples (as well as anyone else who’d like to snap a quick pic (or four)). Of course, there will be plenty of props to help you have some extra fun!

Alumni Band Day 2019

Registration is now CLOSED

It’s that time of year again. Texas Tech has had a fantastic 2019 so far and football season is just around the corner getting ready to show us what they can do! With football season comes marching band and with marching band comes the Goin’ Band from Raiderland.

As the Goin’ Band 2019-20 season nears, the Goin’ Band Association is also gearing up for our annual Alumni Band Day 2019 event. If you’ve never participated in Alumni Band Day, you’re in for a real treat. This is an opportunity for Goin’ Band Alumni from all generations to come back to Jones AT&T Stadium and march one more halftime show for 50,000+ screaming fans.

Alumni Band Day 2019 will be held the weekend of September 7th at the TTU vs UTEP football game!

Please read carefully as there are many important details to be aware of for this event:

  • You must be a member of the Goin’ Band Association in order to register for Alumni Band Day.
  • You must register before the deadline (currently August 25th, 8:00am Central), in order to receive a ticket into the stadium. We have to provide Tech Athletics with our registration numbers early so that they can have the tickets ready to go.
  • All non-performing members and guests will need to purchase a ticket. We will be sitting next to the Goin’ Band in sections 27 and 28 this year. Guest tickets will be sold only through GBA (not available through the Ticket Office) at a price of $25/seat. These tickets must be paid before the deadline (August 25).
  • If you are a member at one of the following levels, GBA will purchase guest tickets on your behalf at no additional cost to you:
    • Director – 1 Guest Ticket
    • Silver Director – 2 Guest Tickets
    • Gold Director – 3 Guest Tickets
    • Platinum Director – 4 Guest Tickets
  • You do not have to march and/or play to participate in our activities. Buses will be provided for those unable to march to the stadium.
  • The game is set for a 7:00pm kickoff, meaning that our schedule will tentatively begin around noon that day.

Alumni Band Day 2018

Registration is now CLOSED!

Man, time flies when you’re having fun! We’re just a few short weeks away from a new Goin’ Band season and, with that, Alumni Band Day 2018. If you’re a member of the Goin’ Band Association, you should’ve received a copy of our Summer 2018 “The Foot’n Half News” newsletter where we announced the date for ABD 2018. If you’re not a paying member, you’re missing out on receiving advanced and insider information about the Goin’ Band from Raiderland! Sign up, now!

The Board of Directors is excited to announce that Alumni Band Day 2018 will be held during the TTU vs Lamar football game on September 8th. This has long been a great opportunity for all Goin’ Band alumni to return to the Jones and take their foot’n a half to perform at halftime alongside the Goin’ Band. Registration for the weekend will open very soon!

Please read carefully, as there is some important information we need to share surrounding this event. Due to many of the changes that have occurred over the past few months (including the change in the Goin’ Band leadership), we are using this opportunity to renegotiate some of the finer details of Alumni Band Day (including seating) with Dr. Allen (Director of the Goin’ Band) and Tech Athletics. Below is what we have confirmed and can share. UPDATE 7/16/18 – Latest updates are in red.

  • You must register before the deadline (currently September 1, 8:00am Central), in order to receive a ticket into the stadium. We have to give Tech Athletics our numbers early so that they can have the tickets ready to go.
  • All non-performing members and guests will need to purchase a ticket. We will be sitting next to the Goin’ Band in sections 27 and 28 this year. Guest tickets will be sold only through GBA (not available through the Ticket Office) at a price of $20/seat. These tickets must be paid before the deadline (currently September 1).
  • If you are a member at one of the following levels, GBA will purchase guest tickets on your behalf at no additional cost to you:

    • Silver Director – 2 Guest Tickets
    • Gold Director – 3 Guest Tickets
    • Platinum Director – 4 Guest Tickets
  • You do not have to march and/or play to participate in our activities. Buses will be provided for those unable to march to the stadium.
  • The game is set for a 3:00pm kickoff, meaning that it will be hot during the game with an early start to the day.

Alumni Band Day 2017

Where has the year gone? We’ve been hard at work getting preparations made for Alumni Band Day 2017 and all of a sudden, it’s time to make an announcement and share the details with everyone. All of our members got a sneak peek into the planning of Alumni Band Day in the release of our Spring 2017 newsletter, The Foot’n Half News, so some of this may not come as much of a surprise to you. If you’re not a paying member, you’re missing out on receiving insider information about the Greatest Band in the Land! Sign up, now!

The Board of Directors is excited to announce that Alumni Band Day 2017 has been confirmed for September 16th at the TTU vs Arizona State University football game. We’re very excited by the prospect of this game and hope you are too! This is your opportunity to return to Texas Tech – return to the Jones – and take your foot’n a half to perform a halftime show once more for all of the excited fans in the stands. Please read carefully, as there is some important information we need to share surrounding this event.

  • You must register before September 1 in order to receive a ticket into the stadium! Texas Tech Athletics will be donating tickets to all performing members and we need to give them the registration numbers early so they can have the tickets ready to go.
  • All non-performing members and guests will need to purchase their tickets. GBA has been offered a group rate discount at $35/person. This must be paid before September 1.
  • If you are a member at one of the following levels, GBA will purchase guest tickets on your behalf at no additional cost to you:
    • Director – 1 Guest Ticket
    • Silver Director – 2 Guest Tickets
    • Gold Director – 3 Guest Tickets
    • Platinum Director – 4 Guest Tickets
  • You do not have to march and/or play to participate in our activities. Buses are provided for those unable to march to the stadium.

Finally, our honor group for Alumni Band Day is a special group that typically always works behind the scenes to make sure that the Goin’ Band can practice or perform no matter where they are. It can be a thankless job, but we are very appreciative of the work they provide to the band each year. For 2017, our honor group is the Bandwagon Drivers! We’ll be recognizing any attending drivers at ABD this year and honoring them for their hard work.
