Goin' Band Association News
Where has the year gone? We’ve been hard at work getting preparations made for Alumni Band Day 2017 and all of a sudden, it’s time to make an announcement and share the details with everyone. All of our members got a sneak peek into the planning of Alumni Band Day in the release of our Spring 2017 newsletter, The Foot’n Half News, so some of this may not come as much of a surprise to you. If you’re not a paying member, you’re missing out on receiving insider information about the Greatest Band in the Land! Sign up, now!
The Board of Directors is excited to announce that Alumni Band Day 2017 has been confirmed for September 16th at the TTU vs Arizona State University football game. We’re very excited by the prospect of this game and hope you are too! This is your opportunity to return to Texas Tech – return to the Jones – and take your foot’n a half to perform a halftime show once more for all of the excited fans in the stands. Please read carefully, as there is some important information we need to share surrounding this event.
- You must register before September 1 in order to receive a ticket into the stadium! Texas Tech Athletics will be donating tickets to all performing members and we need to give them the registration numbers early so they can have the tickets ready to go.
- All non-performing members and guests will need to purchase their tickets. GBA has been offered a group rate discount at $35/person. This must be paid before September 1.
- If you are a member at one of the following levels, GBA will purchase guest tickets on your behalf at no additional cost to you:
- Director – 1 Guest Ticket
- Silver Director – 2 Guest Tickets
- Gold Director – 3 Guest Tickets
- Platinum Director – 4 Guest Tickets
- You do not have to march and/or play to participate in our activities. Buses are provided for those unable to march to the stadium.
Finally, our honor group for Alumni Band Day is a special group that typically always works behind the scenes to make sure that the Goin’ Band can practice or perform no matter where they are. It can be a thankless job, but we are very appreciative of the work they provide to the band each year. For 2017, our honor group is the Bandwagon Drivers! We’ll be recognizing any attending drivers at ABD this year and honoring them for their hard work.
Stay tuned to our website, Facebook, and Twitter feeds as we’ll be posting updates to Alumni Band Day 2017 as we get closer.
We look forward to seeing everyone this fall! If you have any questions, feel free to email us!
Thank you to everyone who joined us last night at the Lady and Red Raider basketball games! The music sounded great and the heckling was on point (as usual). Our next game is this Sunday (12/18) and we hope to see you there.

Jay Sedberry (our fearless director) spoke with most everyone last night regarding holding a rehearsal before our next game. The goal of this rehearsal is to sight-read through as much of the new music as possible before the game. We strongly recommend you attend, if you can.
The rehearsal will be held at the arena in our usual section. Enter through the media entrance (our normal doors), come on down, and join us! We’ll be finished in time for the pre-game meal.
We completely replaced our music with brand new flip folders and fresh copies for all parts. The flip folders were graciously donated by Tarpley Music.
The next time you need instrument service or new music, go visit Tarpley Music and let them know the Goin’ Band Association sent you.
Wreck ’em, Tech!
The first two games are this Wednesday and it’s a Double Header! Even if you can’t make the tip-off time for the first game, please join us as soon as you can.

Beginning this year, Texas Tech implemented a Clear Bag Policy for all athletic events. This is the same policy for the Football games this past fall. For all the details, please read http://texastech.com/sports/2016/7/6/clear-bag-policy.aspx.
Instrument cases will not be subjected to the policy, only purses and small personal bags will be checked.
In addition, Texas Tech is alerting fans of a temporary closure to the entrance and exit of the Commuter West Lot at Texas Tech Parkway and Knoxville Ave. This entrance and exit will be closed from 12/5/16 to 1/13/17 for construction.
During this temporary closure, please make sure to use the entrances and exits off of Indiana (if coming from the North) and the entrance at Indiana and 18th St (if coming from 19th or the Marsha Sharp Freeway).
We look forward to seeing everyone there! Wreck ’em, Tech!
As the students head home for the holidays, there are still several basketball games scheduled. We have been invited to form a basketball band for these holiday games once more and need your help! We don’t have any restrictions on who can join us to play at the games, other than knowing the which end of the instrument points away from you. If you can play a horn or woodwind (or bass guitar?), you are more than welcome to tag along.
Polish off your book of heckling, practice your stand tunes (stop laughing!), and head to the website below to sign up for our mailing list. We’ll be sending out more information as we get closer and need to know how to contact you.
